New spots on the block for 2008

One of the classic venues on Hanover square, which has only seen success in the 80s as Casper’s (you know the cheesy telephone bar) and was recently a failure as Silver has gone under the hammer once more for an offshoot of the Crystal team. Although the venue has a checkered past no one can ignore it’s great location and thus potential to be a great club.

Carlos Armada (who now boasts an impressive accumulation of restaurant bar real estate in Mayfair) will unveil his members club in his 10,000 square foot basement that backs onto Berkeley Street in the coming months. One can take his increased frequency of interviews as a clear indication of an impending opening.

Vendome, a creation by black sheep architects, is a new boutique addition to Walton Street… London’s hottest spot for the Knightsbridge euro glitz crowd. Walton Street has seen many creations over the years each attempting to steal the eclipse crown. As yet no bar has managed to do so, so let's see what Vendome has in store.

As I'm sure you have heard, as has most of the planet, The Ivy is also to open their upper parts to the upper echelons of society. It is to be members spot aimed at giving the Groucho a run for their money.

Further afield Cocco in Verbier is grabbing some attention; well certainly some attention from those that read the Daily Mail anyway. It’s a club that aims to dislodge the establishment of the Farm Club and other classic local favorites. If Verbier is looking for contemporary bling, rather than old skool nightlife, this could be the place. Personally I love the farm. I find it very endearing how parents and grand parents party there with their off-spring.

The owners of Hedges and Butler have opened a new venue too, on New Oxford Street called Lot 54. The location doesn't lend itself to automobile drop off and pick up which I'm sure many Londoners can testify to if they have ever attempted to drive in this area on a Saturday night. The owners have a creative flair which will certainly give the venue a good chance of success.

My top tip for the best parties in London in 08

The girls behind Smash and Grab’s big Thursday night at Punk whose guestlist varies from Kate Moss to Lilly Allen have started a new night at Mahiki called ‘Art Art Tart’. Expect their normal blend of madness.

Anything hosted by Carlos Armada at his new Berkeley Street spot.
